Todays Tonight
Mostly black and white, abstract, painted intuitively. This type of non-objective painting requires a lot of critical thinking. There is nothing to guide the progress. It's basically painting by instinct. If some part starts to look like something recognizable, I eliminate it. I tend to blend natural and man-made elements. I am going for a, what in the world was he thinking, sort of look.
I like the sophistication of black and white with a little color to add depth. Monochrome pieces tend to appear a little flat. The sky blue adds a sense of hope, balanced with a little pale yellow. Natural colors, painted in an unnatural way.
This piece was accepted in a well-known "catalog" of art in its 20th year of publication. American Artwork 2025.
Several years ago, looking around Sawyer Yards, a huge artist community in Houston. A few artists had this book opened to their page, proudly displaying it. C. Ellen Hart was one of the artists I met that day. (She is on the cover of the 2026 edition.) Impressed, I thought, how cool would it be to have my work in this prestigious publication. I was absolutely thrilled to have been accepted. As the name implies, it is open to free submissions from all of America.

Most of the time I paint the piece lying flat. I move it around a lot. Sometimes I hang it on the wall to the left, a series of screws to position it. Notice the red tape. That's where the edges of the final stretch will be.
Exactly one year later. The New Visions, New Voices exhibition of five new Archway artists. Here, I am explaining abstract art to The Houston Insiders Group. About thirty people in a private reception.
Todays Tonight has only had two months of public exposure, so far.
My very first exhibition at Archway Gallery
